Big Bamboo

Big Bamboo plays old school hot dance music from the Caribbean islands and Brazil - Rumba, Choro, Mento, Beguine and Merengue - in an acoustic and improvised style reminiscent of New Orleans jazz. Richard Ormrod grew up with the rich, lyrical sound of early Caribbean music and has been playing in this style for thirty five years. Trombonist Will Osborne is passionate about early calypso and beguine and, together, they lead Big Bamboo on a tour through the first half of the 20th Century, across several seas, and through multiple musical traditions rooted in early jazz and hot dance.

With support from:

Elsie Franklin: Elsie sings and plays acoustic country-blues, ragtime and jazz on her trusty National resonator. She is a rising talent on the UK blues scene, playing all over the country.

Adam Soden: Adam says he tries to make songs like the music he loves. New Orleans jazz, South American folk and highland ballads are some of the influences you might be able to find in tunes that he can best describe as ‘pop innit’.
